godollo_season2One of the most outstanding complexes of the 18th-century Hungarian baroque, the 150,000 square-feet Grassalkovich castle and its 71-acre park are situated in Gödöllö. On the M3 motorway it is only half an hour's drive from Budapest by car or by coach. The aristocratic castle was originally founded by the Count Antal Grassalkovich I in 1730 and became the summer residence of the Emperor Franz Joseph I and the Queen Elizabeth from 1867, and of the Hungarian governor from 1920 till 1945.

True to the spirit of the Count Grassalkovich, who was patron of arts, the castle and its formal courtyard host various cultural events and concerts during the year. Recurring summer events include show jumping and memorial programmes dedicated to the builder of the castle and the late royal couple.
