Exhibitions range from local ancient Roman archaeological sites to contemporary graphics and sculpture. The city lies on the river Rhine and its famous Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cologne. The University of Cologne is internationally renowned and one of Europe's oldest universities.
Cologne is well-known for its beer called Kölsch, which maybe gave the name to the local dialect. This has led to the common joke that Kölsch is the only language you can drink:-) Do you know, Cologne is also famous for Eau de Cologne? At the beginning of the 18th century Johann Maria Farina created a new fragrance and named it after his hometown – Cologne!
