Salzburg's "Old Town" with its worldwide famous baroque architecture is one of the best-preserved city centres in German-speaking world, and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The city is noted for its location in the Alps. It is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Also some parts of the musical and the movie The Sound of Music was shot there.

Salzburg is a tourist favourite destination, with many interesting places in the city centre, especially in the Old Town, or the greater Salzburg area. Enjoy amazing views of Salzburg from the Hohensalzburg Fortress, go for a walk to the Gardens in Mirabell Palace or feel the centuries in the Salzburg Cathedral.
Great places for the rest are Salzkammergut, an area of lakes east of the city, or Salzburger Freilichtmuseum Großgmain, an open-air museum with old farmhouses and farm buildings.
